Enrollment at Italian universities is already open.
In Italy, there is no common deadline for submitting applications.
Each university decides independently when to open enrollment, and most do so only once a year.
If you miss the application period, admission is postponed for a year.

Dates and deadlines for April 2026:
In April 2026, many Italian universities have already published their admission calls (bandi) for the 2026/2027 academic year, and the application process is actively underway for numerous institutions.
Since procedures vary by university and specific degree program (e.g., open vs. limited admission), it is essential to check the official portals of the institutions you are interested in.
Below are examples of institutions that have already opened or initiated their admission procedures for the upcoming academic year:
- Università della Calabria (Unical): The call for applications for bachelor’s and single-cycle master’s degrees for A.A. 2026/2027 is active. The first admission phase runs until May 15, 2026.
- Università di Bologna (Campus di Forlì): Admission calls for A.A. 2026/2027 are currently open for several study programs.
- Università di Trento (UniTrento): Admission calls for A.A. 2026/2027 are online. The application period for the second session typically spans spring 2026.
- Università Cattolica: Has already conducted admission tests for Medicine and Dentistry programs in February and April 2026.
For programs with national access restrictions (such as Medicine, Architecture, or Health Professions), the Ministry of University and Research (MUR) sets specific national dates, which are typically published throughout the spring.
If you are targeting a specific university, I recommend visiting their official “Ammissioni” or “Orientamento” page immediately, as deadlines for early applications often fall between April and May.

University enrollment dates for the 2026/202 academic year vary depending on the university and degree program, but generally range from July/September to the end of October/November for open-access courses, with subsequent deadlines (often subject to a fee) until March for limited-enrollment courses.
It is essential to consult the specific announcement of the university of interest to find out the exact deadlines.
To enroll in the first year of a university course, most Italian universities require students to take an orientation and assessment test to determine their aptitude and preparation.
Here I have written a post about admission exams for Italian universities.
